Masters of the universe

Cavan 1-10 Antrim 0-9 There is life in those legs yet as Cavan claimed Masters All-Ireland glory with a final win over Antrim. Those legs might get slower but the brain is as quick as ever and both sides played some fine football in Kingspan Breffni Park. Scores were swapped early on before the decisive goal came from Gabriel Patterson just past the 20 minute mark and that left the home side two points to the good at the break, 1-5 to 0-6. Entering the final quarter just one point separated the sides but scores from Tommy Smyth and Pat Shalvey gave the Breffni men a three point advantage. That lead looked set to disappear with ten minutes remaining when Antrim won a penealty but Aidan Donnelly's spot kick went the wrong side the of the upright. Seamus Donohoe's free was the insurance point but there was still time for a few late jitters as Antrim had a goal ruled out for a square ball infringement before the final whistle blew. Cavan - Francis Clarke, John Emo, Kevin Madden, John Duffy, Sean Henry, Philip Smith, Bernard Morris, Gabriel Patterson (1-0), Thomas Smyth (0-2), Don McDonald, Pat Shalvey (0-1), Philip Brady, Seamus Donohoe (0-3), Jody Clarke (0-4), Paul Campbell.
