Roscommon appointment imminent
September 18, 2008

Roscommon minor manager Fergal O'Donnell
Fergal O'Donnell could be installed as the new Roscommon football manager as early as tonight.
While a host of names have been linked with the post, it's believed that the 2006 All-Ireland minor manager is the Roscommon county board's number one choice to succeed Michael Ryan in the role.
Ryan was appointed interim manager following John Maughan's resignation last spring, but will be concentrating on his playing career with Roscommon Gaels for the foreseeable future. Ryan, who was under 21 manager this year, may continue in this role next year when Roscommon will be expected to challenge strongly for provincial and All-Ireland honours.
A garda based in Boyle, O'Donnell is believed to have been in contact with members of the board's executive in recent days and has informed them that he is allowing his name to go forward for ratification.
The former midfielder would be a popular choice with Roscommon supporters, having also skippered the county to their most recent Connacht SFC success seven years ago.
