Donegal bring forward deadline
September 17, 2008
Donegal county board have brought forward the closing date of applications for the vacant football manager's post by 24 hours to next Monday, September 22 at 6pm.
This is to facilitate players who are involved in the county final on October 4 and who are thought to be keen to have their say in the appointment of the new manager.
The position became vacant a fortnight ago when Brian McIver stood down after a number of clubs had expressed disquiet at his reappointment. So far, only former All-Ireland winning defender John Joe Doherty has publicly expressed an interest in succeeding McIver.
Other names linked with the position are Francie Martin, Jim McGuinness, Sean Clerkin and Charlie Mulgrew, who led Fermanagh to a shock All-Ireland semi-final appearance in 2004.
