SFC quarter-finals take centre stage

September 12, 2008
Cusack Park will host the two senior football championship quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon. The action gets underway at 2pm when Coralstown/Kinnegad square up to Castledaly. This will be followed at 3.30pm by the meeting of Garrycastle and The Downs. Coralstown/Kinnegad and Castledaly booked their quarter-final places last weekend by getting the better of Killucan and Bunbrosna respectively. A close game is in prospect with Castledaly's greater experience likely to prove decisive. The second quarter-final pairs together two of the favourites for outright honours. The Downs could have avoided this difficult assignment had they not slipped up in their last two outings against Killucan and St. Loman's. Garrycastle, on the other hand, are coming into this tie on a high after defeating town rivals Athlone and look to be hitting top form at just the right time. Tyrrellspass and St. Loman's await the winners of Sunday's games in the semi-finals.
