Tipperary's Nenagh Eire Óg claimed the Meteor Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland Hurling Sevens Senior Cup Final at the weekend while Castleblaney from Monaghan were named winners of the Shield. Nickey Brennan presented the winning teams with their trophies along with Tony Stewart Lord from Meteor and Tom Barry Chairman of the Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Section. The Senior Cup competition provided plenty of fast paced and skilful hurling action with neighbouring club rivals Nenagh Eire Óg battling it out against Portroe in an exhilarating final. At half-time, there was just one point between the teams, who are located just eight miles from each other in North Tipperary. In the end, Nenagh Eire Óg proved to be the stronger team finishing with an impressive score of 3-20 (29) to 4-10 (22). Player of the Tournament was presented to Darren Gleeson, goalkeeper for the runners up Portroe. Tipperary proved to be the top county of the competition with four of the Semi-Finalist teams hailing from the Premier County. Kilruane McDonaghs were defeated by Nenagh Eire Óg, while Portroe deprived Toomevara of a place in the final in a very close clash with just one point between the teams at the final whistle. The Shield competition also saw teams from the same county compete with Donegal clubs Burt Hibernians taking on Setanta in the first semi final while in the other Naomh Moninne from Louth took on Monaghan team Castleblaney Faughs who eventually went on to win the Shield. Commenting on the results of the day, Tom Rock, Chairman of the Meteor Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Sevens Workgroup congratulated all participants and highlighted that the Meteor Cup is now one of the most coveted prizes in Club Hurling.
