The O'Donovan Rossa junior hurlers cemented their place in their first junior A championship final since 1956 after an outstanding team performance full of skill and determination, with a comprehensive twelve point victory over Dohenys in Ardfield last Tuesday evening on a 3-12 to 0-9 scoreline. Skibb started brightly with Rob Long scoring two goals within the opening ten minutes to give Skibb's hopes of victory a massive boost. Unerring accuracy from set pieces from deadly duo Alan Foley and Kevin Cotter helped Skibb hold a five point interval lead. Skibb dominated the second half with their backs particularly imperious leading the charge. Kevin Cotter tacked on a late injury time goal to secure a well deserved and emphatic victory. Skibb now await the winners of the Diarmuid " Math?nas v Newcestown clash, with the victors of this game proceeding to a semi-final decider against Kilbrittain. The final has been provisionally scheduled for Sunday, September 21 as the Skibb team attempt to bring the Flyer Nyhan Cup home for the first time to Dear Old Skibbereen since the great three in a row team completed the feat in 1933. The junior 2 hurlers play their second round back door game against Clonakilty this Friday evening, September 5, in Bandon at 6.30pm. The senior footballers resume Kelleher Shield action when they travel to play Mallow away next Wednesday evening, under lights at 8pm. This is the footballers last scheduled Kelleher Shield game of the year. The minor footballers quarter-final clash against Carbery Rangers has been scheduled for Friday, September 12, at 6.15pm in Moneyvolihane. There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in the Horse and Hound Bar last Monday night for e2,750. The numbers drawn were 5, 8, 10 and 21. The consolation prize winner was John O'Shea.
