Antrim and Galway step closer to Leinster

Both Galway and Antrim's hopes of competing in next year's Leinster Senior Hurling Championship were given a big boost with the news that their proposal would be the only one put forward to Special Congress in October. Before going to Portlaoise to try and sway Leinster officials of the two counties' inclusion into the provincial championship, GAA president Nickey Brennan revealed that the motion was going before Special Congress next month regardless. "The motion is definitely going before congress, we're just hoping to allay any fears that Leinster counties may have about what's lying ahead," said Brennan. "I think the vibes are generally positive. What's being proposed is something that practically everyone is talking about. The plan is that they'll be there for five years and we'll review them after three." Brennan pointed out that he could not say where Galway currently stood on the proposal, but admitted that there were certainly people for and against the proposal. "Well, I can't say," said Brennan. "We've been to Galway a number of times. I don't want to comment on Galway but certainly there's people who are comfortable with the arrangement and some people who are not comfortable with the arrangement. How many are on either side I don't know but that's for Galway to answer."
