GAA to persuade inclusions at Portlaoise meeting
September 02, 2008
Both GAA president Nickey Brennan and Director General Paraic Duffy will travel to Portlaoise tonight (Tuesday) in an attempt to persuade Leinster counties of a new structure in their provincial hurling championship.
The pair will hope to convince those in attendance that the inclusion of both Galway and Antrim into the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship for next year will benefit all parties involved.
With the Hurling Development committee poised to reveal plans for the two counties proposals moving into Leinster a vote is set to take place next month by Special Congress.
Opposition has come about over Galway's inclusion in some Leinster counties, including Laois, but Brennan and Duffy travel hoping to persuade some of the province's top chairmans, secretaries, and delegates, including Leinster Board chairman Seamus Howlin.
"We will know the situation better after the meeting," said Howlin. "But if we have been able to help hurling, Leinster has never been found wanting in the past."
