O'Connor let off the hook by technical fault?

August 31, 2008
It has been alleged that a technical fault in the referee's match report lies behind the decision by the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) to overturn a one match ban on Cork footballer Donncha O'Connor. The report in the Sunday Independent newspaper alleges that a technicality was spotted in referee Joe McQuillan's (Cavan) report and the suspension was subsequently thrown out after it was highlighted by the Cork County Board. The newspaper further alleges that the Cork County Board successfully argued that certain terminology in the referee's report did not comply with procedural official guide requirements and the board thus successfully won the appeal on those grounds which served to free O'Connor to play in this afternoon's All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay against Kerry.
