Kerry's Peter Crowley tackles Mayo centre forward Aiden O'Shea in the ESB All-Ireland MFC semi-final replay at Limerick
Mayo 3-13 Kerry 1-9 Mayo have the look of ESB All-Ireland MFC winners after they walloped Kerry by all of ten points in this semi-final replay at Limerick. Kerry came into the game with the star name in the grade in the form of Barry John Walsh, son of Sean and brother of senior star Tommy, but it was Mayo full forward Aidan Walsh who stole the show with five frees in a total of 1-6. Ray Dempsey's side laid the foundation for the win with a stunning first half display which saw them lead by 2-8 to 1-2 against the shell shocked Munster champions. It all started so well for the Kingdom as Jamie O'Sullivan and Colm O'Shea pointed but from that point in the first period belonged to the Westerners. Walsh's goal came just five minutes into the game and with the same player in inspired form from placed balls, Mayo started to rack up the scores. Cathal Freeman and Raymond Geraghty were also on target with points before Alex Corduff snuck in for goal number two for Mayo after a point attempt rebounded off an upright. With a deficit of over ten points, the Munster men needed a break and a goal from Barry John Walsh just before the interval gave them a glimmer of hope. Kerry upped the tempo after the break but some controlled play around the middle of the park from the Connacht men kept them at bay, even though they narrowed the deficit some. To rub salt into the Kerry wounds, substitute Dean Gavin grabbed a third Mayo goal near the end as his side qualified with aplomb to a final meeting with either Tyrone or Meath.
