McEnaney to lead Irish officials 'Down Under'
August 29, 2008
Pat McEnaney will lead the country's International Rules refereeing team for this year's series in Australia.
McEnaney headed the series in both of the 2000 and 2001 tests and will be joined on the trip 'Down Under' by David Goldrick of Meath. Ireland's two umpires and replacement referees for the series, if needed, will be John Bannon (Longford) and Geroid O Conamha (Galway).
The Monaghan referee's appointment suggests that the GAA are looking to send their most experienced officials to this year's tests as the series will be revived following two years suspension for the chaotic scenes in Croke Park which led to the series being abandoned.
