Portlaoise in pole position

Portlaoise remain the bookies' favourites to retain their county title following the latest round of games in the Laois SFC. Without impressing, 'The Town' overcame The Heath by 1-9 to 0-6 last weekend to ease into the quarter-finals. Also through to the last eight are St. Joseph's, who defeated Timahoe by 3-8 to 2-5, Crettyard, who were surprise 1-11 to 0-8 winners over Graiguecullen and The Rock, who saw off Arles-Kilcruise by 2-6 to 1-7. The four quarter-finals won't be played until the weekend of September 19/20 with the qualifier round two ties taking place before then on the weekend of September 5/6/7. The qualifier draw is as follows: The Heath v Stradbally; Timahoe v Portarlington or Ballylinan; Graiguecullen v O'Dempsey's; Arles/Kilcruise v Mountmellick. In the relegation semi-finals, Emo have been pitted against Arles-Killeen, while Clonaslee St. Manman's will play the losers of the round one qualifier replay between Ballylinan and Portarlington.
