Gormley taking nothing for granted

August 28, 2008
Conor Gormley has pointed out that Tyrone will be taking nothing for granted this Sunday when they travel to Croke Park to take on Wexford in an All-Ireland semi-final. The Red Hands defender admitted that while the Model County are one of the smaller teams his side's came up against in the last four of the All-Ireland series, he believes they will pose as big a threat as any team would to Tyrone intentions of reaching this year's decider. "The last two semi-finals we were against the big guns, and Wexford wouldn't be seen as a big team at the minute. "But you have to give them credit. They're in an All-Ireland semi-final, 70 minutes away from an All-Ireland final, so you can't take anybody for granted at this stage. "If you just look through the results this year, we had Fermanagh getting to the Ulster final, and other surprise results, so we just can't write Wexford off. We have to be on our guard." Mickey Harte's men's 12-point defeat of Dublin in their quarter-final has received much praise from neutrals around the country, and Gormley has suggested that it was a performance waiting to come from the O'Neill County since the Ulster SFC exit to Down this summer. "The last two performances were at the opposite end of the scale," said Gormley. "Everything went right against Dublin, whereas we were maybe just lucky enough to get past Mayo. "Maybe the whole atmosphere, the big crowd came together, everything was at stake and everybody just knew it was time to deliver. "The thing just clicked for us, and I think the key was that everybody performed against Dublin, everybody gave 110 per cent." Gormley is once again expected to take his position in the half-back line for Tyrone this Sunday, with throw-in time against Wexford scheduled for 4.00pm at Croke Park.
