Under 21's - The under 21 final against Scotstown on Saturday last proved to be the tightly contest affair anticipated with a final result of 1-6 to 0-9. Both teams deserve credit for serving up an enthralling game in what were difficult weather conditions. The Faughs got off to a good start with a pointed free by captain Martin Mc Elroy however the first half was a case of two penalties with Martin Mc Elroy converting for Blayney and Padraig Mc Nally pulling off a tremendous save to deny Scotstown. The teams went in at half time with Blayney leading by a point.
The second half proved to be an equally tight affair with Scotstown equalizing before Blayney again pulled away with two well executed points by Christoper Callan and Keith Hill leaving Blayney two up with five minutes left. A good point by Scotstown reduced the margin to the minimum on the stroke of full time however a questionable 14 yd free was awarded to Scotstown and duly converted in injury time.
A date for the replay is yet to be decided.
Minors - The minors will have to use the back door route if they are to advance in the minor championship after suffering a home defeat to Latton on Tuesday last. Blayney where behind throughout the game and managed only one score on the first half to trail 0-4 to 0-1 at the break. The second half started brightly for the home side but a goal near the end of the quarter cancelled out the points from Philip Callan and Fergal Duffy. Blayney battled to get a goal chance but had to rely on pointed frees from Duffy and Dermot Malone. The hammer blow of another goal arrived as the game entered the last five minutes and Blayney never looked like getting the goal they needed to get back into the game. Best for Blayney was Ultan Brady and Jack Deasy at the back, while up front Dermot Malone and Fergal Duffy worked very hard throughout the game. Blayney have been drawn to face St Patricks in the backdoor which is fixed for Monday evening in Blayney at 6.45.
