Dolan accuses O'Mahony of over-reacting
August 26, 2008
Cork County Board chairman Mick Dolan has accused Kerry's Aidan O'Mahony of over-reacting to the light slap he received from Donnacha O'Connor in Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final.
After receiving the touch from O'Connor, O'Mahony dramatically fell to the floor and the Cork attacker, who had hit 0-4 for the Rebels at that stage, was subsequently sent off by referee Joe McQuillan.
However Dolan was sympathetic towards O'Connor as he believes the forward got lured into the situation and that his opponent over-reacted to the slap.
"I think the other man over-reacted and it is something similar to what we see in other games.
"I feel sorry for Donnacha, who was harshly done by. He was walked into it and apparently he had to put up with some fierce verbal abuse.
"Lots of people don't realise the verbal abuse in certain matches. The two teams have met so often over the last five years that it seems familiarity breeds contempt."
After the CCCC handed down a four-week suspension to O'Connor on Monday, the attacker confirmed to Dolan and the County Board that he would be appealing the ban to which the Board has fully backed his decision.
