O'Connor to appeal ban

Cork's Donncha O'Connor
Cork's Donnacha O'Connor is set to appeal his four-week suspension handed down to him by the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) on Monday. O'Connor received a straight red card from referee Joe McQuillan for lightly slapping Kerry's Aidan O'Mahony's across the face during Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final at Croke Park. Afterwards, O'Mahony fell to the floor dramatically and the Cork attacker was given his marching orders by the Cavan referee. Now Cork County Board chairman Mick Dolan has confirmed that O'Connor will receive the full backing of the board over appealing the month's ban. "Donncha O'Connor intimated to us yesterday that he would like to appeal the decision. Whenever a player wants to appeal a decision, we stand by our players and help them to fight their case. We have always done that in the past and I think it is the same in every county, you have to stand by your players," said Dolan. Kerry's Darragh Ó Sé is unlikely to appeal his four-week suspension as the replay, if Pat O'Shea's men were to win it, would allow him to play in yet another All-Ireland final for the Kingdom on September 21.
