Western Gaels GAC, Bristol Club Notes
August 22, 2008
The Gaels had two league games this week, starting with defeat away to St. Nicks on the 17th and a fine victory over St Colmcilles on the 21st in Avonmouth.
The Gaels put up a very good fight against a strong St Nicks side, however defensive errors led to their downfall as they lost out on a score-line of 0-03 to 5-05 with Anton Bolton, Martin Hassan & debut boy Tim Roach getting the Gaels scores, and for long spells they matched St. Nicks and just couldn't turn possession into scores. Best on the day were Adam Parsons, Lachlan McDonald, Mark Gallagher and club veteran Anton Bolton with aussie Phil Brash taking on the captains duties for the game.
It was a different story against St. Colmcilles as the Gaels overcame their Cardiff rivals with a 1-10 to 2-01 victory, with Cardiff's second goal coming from an injury time penalty. Anton Bolton got the Gaels goal, latching onto a penalty save in the 25th minute.
Bolton finished the game with 1-01, Phil Brash topped off a brilliant performance with 2 points, while Stuart Rooney, John Enright, Brian McCarthy, Mark Gallagher, Darragh Scanlan, Martin Hassan & Lee Canavan chipped in with 1 point each. The full back line of Joe Swift, Duane Quinn & Michael Hughes performed brilliantly on the day, as the Gaels were captained by Gallagher.
