Louth struck three goals in the closing 20 minutes to secure a 4-10 to 0-15 win over Wexford and their place in the semi-finals of the Leinster senior football championship.

A sluggish start from Ger Brennan’s men in Portlaoise saw them falling 0-8 to 0-4 behind after the opening 25 minutes before Tommy Durnin’s point was backed up by a timely Ciaran Downey goal three minutes before half-time.

Tom Jackson’s point would be the difference when the sides went in at the interval (1-6 to 0-8) but a fired-up Wexford side themselves back in front early in the restart thanks to scores from Glen Malone and Sean Nolan.

Another Durnin point levelled it up again in the 51st minute ahead of Ciaran Keenan breaking through and rifling to the Slaneysiders’ net.

From there, the Wee County didn’t look back as marksman Sam Mulroy netted two more for them (one a penalty) down the home stretch to cement their berth in the semi-finals of the eastern province against Kildare.
