Offaly are through to the last four of the Leinster senior football championship after handing Laois a 2-13 to 1-8 defeat at O’Moore Park this evening.

Declan Kelly’s charges had made a strong start in Portlaoise that saw them running up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead by the 20-minute mark before Shaun Fitzpatrick’s goal got the hosts right back in contention.

Eoin Buggie and Killian Roche (free) sent over points late in the half that had teams honours even come the break (1-5 to 0-8), and a Evan O’Carroll free saw Laois hit the front two minutes into the resumption.

Dylan Hyland’s pair of frees ensured the lead was short lived however, as the Faithful men went on to hit back-to-back goals after that to move them out of sight.

Keith O’Neill grabbed his side’s first major in the 41st minute and, in the very next attack, Jordan Hayes broke through to land a second hammer blow for the visitors.

O’Neill kept the points coming as Offaly moved towards a double figures lead, with a brace of frees at the other end from Mark Berry only proving consolation for Justin McNulty’s men.

The win mark's Offaly's first over Laois in the Leinster SFC since 2002 as they now prepare to face either Dublin or Meath in the semi-finals in two weeks' time.
