Roscommon overcame the early concession of a goal to see off Louth by 1-20 to 1-14 at Dr Hyde Park and chalk up their first win in this year’s Nickey Rackard Cup.

Conor Murphy’s goal after seven minutes had put the Wee County in front prior to the Rossies taking control thanks to the points of Paddy Fallon and Brendan Mulry.

The pair would help send the hosts towards a commanding 0-15 to 1-3 interval lead and kept the white flags flying after the change of ends ahead of a Mulry goal late on sealing the win.

In day’s later game, Donegal scored a 0-22 to 1-12 win over Armagh at the Box-It Athletic Grounds to ensure the perfect start to their own campaign.

Alex O’Boyle found the net five minutes into this one for the Orchard men but the visitors were able to move in front through the sound free-taking of Gerard Gilmore, and a couple of points from Ruairi Campbell and Conor Gartland had them 0-13 to 1-7 up come the break.

Declan Coulter stretched the Tir Chonaill County's lead early in the restart and they went on to hit the last four points via Sean Ward, Peter Kelly and Liam McKinney (2) to ensure the victory.
