Fermanagh got their Lory Meagher Cup campaign off to a winning start after seeing off Leitrim by 0-19 to 1-9 in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon.

The Ernesiders had dominated the opening half to run up a 0-9 to 0-0 lead, with Daniel Teague and Caolan Duffy to the fore, and added another point through Luca McCusker early on in the restart before Leitrim eventually got off the mark with a Conor Hackett point on 37 minutes.

The home side did reduce their deficit to seven prior to making it a four-point game thanks to Stephen Goldrick’s 63rd minute goal, but the points of John Paul McGarry (2), Duffy and Brian Teehan saw Fermanagh comfortably claiming the win.

In Pearse Park, Longford were 2-22 to 0-10 winners over Lancashire as Cian Darcy’s seven first-half points were backed up by goals from the Tipperary native and David Buckley for the home side.

Meanwhile, Cavan got off to a flier in their opener after defeating Warwickshire by 1-22 to 2-13 at Kingspan Breffni.

Luke Hands’s goal late in the first-half saw the Exiles take in a 1-10 to 0-10 advantage at the halfway stage before the Breffni men enjoyed the perfect restart with a Sean Keating major.

Ollie Bellew’s side moved in front again ahead of Jack Grealish netting Warwickshire’s second as they moved ahead, but six points from Nicky Kenny and the scores of Keating (3) and Lim O’Brien made sure to get the job done for the Blues.
