Armagh opened their Ulster minor football championship campaign with an emphatic 2-9 to 0-2 victory over Antrim at the Box-It Athletic Grounds this afternoon.

Playing with a strong first-half breeze, the hosts were 0-5 to 0-0 to the good when Caomh Agnew grabbed their first goal and another from Daithi O’Callaghan early in the second-half well and truly killed off the game as a contest.

Donegal were also comfortable in a 3-13 to 1-4 win against Fermanagh at Brewster Park, where Paddy Ward (2) and Conor McCahill supplied the winners’ goals.

In Errigal Ciaran, Tyrone were made to battle to the end for a 2-7 to 1-7 win over Down, while the afternoon’s later game saw holders Derry overcome Cavan by 1-8 to 1-5 in Owenbeg where Shane McCabe’s first-half goal for the visitors would be cancelled out by Ruairi Biggs midway through the second period.
