Sonia Kinsella receives her Ulster GAA Coach of the Year award

Saul clubwoman Sonia Kinsella won the Ulster GAA coach of the year award this past weekend as she continues her battle against breast cancer.

Sonia was part of the Down club’s management team which steered their side to the Mourne County’s junior championship final this past season.

"I'm absolutely delighted, I really am," she told BBC Sport Northern Ireland. "It's great for the club, even to get the club mentioned and for people to know where Saul is! Our club does so much hard work and it's a wee bit of recognition.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer 11 years ago and unfortunately, it returned two years ago. I've been on constant chemo for a while. Thank God we're into the woolly hat weather so we can get the hats on."

She added: "I have a brilliant squad of senior ladies here this year. My brother Frank, we had the best times. It's wasn't hard work, they're a really good bunch of girls.

"We got to the Junior Championship final but unfortunately Clonduff were just that wee bit better than us on the day and definitely deserved it. It's great, we didn't expect it at the start of the year."
