Sean O’Shea and Aaron Gillane have been named as PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month for April.

Footballer of the Month O’Shea starred in Kerry’s run to the Allianz League final, while Hurler of the Month Gillane pointed the way as Limerick were crowned hurling league winners.

Munster Council Chairman Liam Lenihan and the GPA’s Seamus Hickey joined PwC Partner Ger O’Mahoney in making today’s presentations.

Sean O’Shea finished the Allianz Football League as top scorer in Division One and was a key factor as Kerry reached the final, where they came unstuck against Mayo. The 20-year old Kenmare student registered 1-50 over the course of the campaign, including five points from placed balls in the decider.

Aaron Gillane was instrumental as Limerick won a first top-flight league title since 1997. He was Man of the Match in the final against Waterford, notching 1-9, with 1-5 of that coming from open play. His goal will live long in the memory.

Commenting on the announcement, Ger O’Mahoney, Partner, PwC, said: “As the sponsor of the PwC All-Stars and the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month Awards, we are delighted to support excellence in young Irish talent.  Today’s winners epitomised excellence throughout their respective league campaigns and on behalf of PwC I offer them both my heartiest congratulations.

“As this is the first Player of the Month event for 2019 I would also like to take the opportunity to welcome Liam and Seamus to our offices today and thank the GAA and the GPA for their support in all we look to do around our sponsorships of Gaelic games.”

Munster Council Chairman Liam Lenihan added: “Congratulations to our Player of the Month winners for April and best of luck to both of them in the days and weeks ahead with games that will determine how long their respective summer campaigns unfold.

“Sean has had an exceptional career to date for Kerry for a player so young and I’m sure we’ll be hearing and seeing much more about him throughout the summer. I’m delighted to see my fellow county man Aaron pick up the hurling award. He was a key reason Limerick added league honours to last year’s All-Ireland glory.

“Congratulations to both players and my thanks on behalf of the GAA to Ger and the PwC team for hosting today’s event and all they do in the promotion of our games.”

Speaking on behalf of the GPA, Chairman Seamus Hickey added: “Congratulations to both Aaron Gillane and Sean O’Shea on winning their respective awards. Both players have performed to exceptionally high levels on the pitch in recent times and are deserving winners of the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month Awards for April.

“Aaron and Sean are both students, in Mary I and UCC respectively, and are preparing for exams which makes their achievements all the more admirable.”
