Galway hurling manager Micheál Donoghue has been dealt another injury blow ahead of the start of the Leinster SHC next month.

Conor Cooney is facing a spell on the sidelines after limping out St Thomas' county SHC first round defeat to Liam Mellows in what was a repeat of last year's county final at Athenry. The star forward suffered an ankle injury in the closing stages of the 0-14 to 1-17 loss and left Kenny Park on crutches.

Donoghue is already planning for the Leinster SHC without Joe Canning who will be out of action for up to 16 weeks after recently undergoing groin surgery while Joseph Cooney has emigrated to Australia.
