Highly-rated Skerries Harps defender Jack Smith is on the verge of completing an inter-county transfer to Westmeath.

Smith, whose father Peter was a sticky corner back for Mullingar Shamrocks and Westmeath in the 1980s and 1990s, is eligible to play for the Lake County under the GAA's parentage rule. His younger brother Stephen lined out at corner forward for Dublin against Westmeath in the O'Byrne Cup final earlier this year, while another brother, Eoin, is also a key player for Skerries Harps who were promoted to Division 1 of the league last year.

Jack starred for DCU in their 2015 Sigerson Cup success, but failed to break into the Dublin senior team thereafter and has now pledged his inter-county allegiances to Westmeath. 

Kilmacud Crokes' Shane Horan recently transferred to Offaly under the parentage rule, as did Conor Cox from Kerry to Roscommon, while Oisin Manning (St Jude's) and Davy Devereux (Ballinteer St John's) switched their allegiances to Wicklow.
