Ballyboden's Collie Basquel celebrates a goal with Paul Ryan

Dual talent Colm Basquel can do anything he puts his mind to, according to Ballyboden St Enda's clubmate Paul Ryan

The Dublin footballer enjoyed an astonishing first start for Ballyboden’s hurlers on Sunday when bagging 3-3 against Coolederry in their Leinster Club SHC semi-final.

Ryan – who clipped over 14 points – enjoyed the dazzling display but can’t see Basquel joining up with him on the Dublin hurling panel any time soon:

“You’re always going to be up against the footballers and they’re going for five in a row. Jim Gavin will want to have his full panel there and more. So to pull from that panel, I don’t know,” he comments in The Irish Sun.

“He’s enjoying it with us and that’s the main thing. He’s a football man his whole life. The last time he played hurling was five or six years ago. So to do what he did against Coolderry, after not picking up a hurl for so long, it’s just great.

“Collie has been tipping away in training with us. We got him up a few weeks ago, before the county final. If he puts his mind to anything, he has the confidence and the athletic ability to achieve.”
