The current format to the Kilkenny league/championship may be changed for the first time since it was introduced in 1982.
The format was changed slightly in 1989, but it has basically been the same over the last four decades, during which time, the county won the All-Ireland SHC on no fewer than 15 occasions.
However, given the new format to the Leinster and All-Ireland championships, Kilkenny are looking at ways to combine both with their own format not fitting in at all.
This year saw a 17-week mid-summer break between games in the league/championship and it now looks as if they may change their format.
A Club Forum is to be held next month to discuss the issue and where clubs can put forward idea but that has not helped the county board’s cause so far.
There are fifteen county finals taking place this weekend with ten of those in football. Join our match tracker on Sunday afternoon for live updates from around the county grounds.
