Carlow centre forward Darragh Foley is in no doubt that the management team played a huge part in their success.

Manager Turlough O'Brien brought in coach Steven Poacher last year and the side have been making steady progress ever since. While many football purists might not like their defensive style, it certainly has proven to be very effective.

From a near miss in promotion and decent performances against Wexford, Dublin and Monaghan in the Leinster and All-Ireland SFC last year to promotion this year, Carlow's progress has been there for all to see.

Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist, Foley who is one of the longer serving members of the squad, admits that the whole squad bought into what the management were trying to implement.

"I suppose since Turlough (O'Brien) took over and Steve (Poacher) came on board with the management team, we could see a progression taking place," said Foley.

"We knew we were good enough and now we are unbeaten in nine national league games (including last year) which is unbelievable for us."
