NUI Galway are through to the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup after upsetting UCC 1-9 to 0-7 at Mardyke.
Limerick man Brian Donovan fired in the Galway students' goal during the first-half and they could even afford to play with 14 men for the majority of the second, with corner-back Aaron O'Connor having been sent off on a straight red card seven minutes into the restart.
Despite kicking seven first-half wides, Donovan's strike helped the visitors lead by 1-5 to 0-4 at the break, as Enda Tierney, Adam Gallagher Owen Gallagher sailed over points to leave UCC playing catch up after the resumption.
The home side, which had to wait 25 minutes for their first score via Stephen Sherlock's free, couldn't close the gap though and their best chance of doing so came in injury-time when they'd earned a penalty.
However, Kerry's Killian Spillane saw his effort saved and NUIG progressed safely through to the last four against DIT next Tuesday night.
