Jack O'Connor has confirmed that David Clifford will play for Kerry in next year's Allianz League.

The Kerry U20 manager has spoken to his senior counterpart Eamon Fitzmaurice about his plans for the gifted teenager and says a decision on whether he will play championship for the seniors or the U20s will be taken after the league campaign. The new U20 championship will run from June to August, with any player named on a senior inter-county championship panel ineligible to play in the grade.

"We had a chat about [Clifford], along with the chairman Tim Murphy, and look, more than anything else I'd love to have David Clifford involved with the under 20s, he could be the difference between us winning it and us not winning it. He's just a remarkable talent," O'Connor told Newstalk's Off The Ball.

"The least that he deserves is a go with the Kerry seniors in the National League. That'll tell whether he's up to level or not. He will get to the level but whether he's up to that level in 2018, has to be seen."

O'Connor was speaking after being involved with the Moorefield team that staged an incredible late comeback to beat St. Loman's in yesterday's Leinster club SFC final. His son Eanna top-scored with 0-8 for the Newbridge outfit, while another son, Cian, missed the final through suspension.
