Outgoing Cork chairman Ger Lane says the county board's financial loss for 2017 "is not sustainable".

The financial report from last weekend's annual convention revealed that the Rebel County showed a loss of €326,000 this year and Lane, who was succeeded by Tracey Kennedy on the night, described the figure as "staggering".

"As has been reported in our financial report today the county board showed a loss of €326k in 2017. This is not sustainable," Lane said in his address to delegates.

"Why is it happening? As you can see, the cost of our inter-county teams is spiralling (to) €1.7million, this figure is staggering and will cripple the association in the next few years. A new deal with GPA saw an increase in mileage from 50c to 62.5 and a weekly allowance of €20 per player food allowance.

"Our county and other counties are incapable of sustaining this type of expense. I'm severely concerned about where we will end up in the next few years. Who's going to pay for the expenses incurred for excessive amounts of playing gear, overnight trips away, mileage, meals, full-time physios, strength and conditioning, statisicians, psychologists?

"The inter-county is vital as the shop window of the Association, but can we continue to pump money into our teams at the current rate and survive? Most county boards are feeling the pressure and we are in a similar position regarding day to day spending. I believe the Association requires to have a major debate before it's too late."
