The father of Ronan Clarke says the former All Star is making "gradual progress" in hospital where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning full forward suffered the injury when he collided with a goalpost while playing for Pearse Og against Maghery in the Armagh SFC on Friday night. The 32-year-old remains in intensive care at Craigavon Hospital, but has been taken off the ventilator.

"He's just making gradual progress. His condition is stable and he's in intensive care," Adrian Clarke said in the Irish News.

"We're taking every step by step. We're happy enough that he's in Craigavon, they are in constant contact with the RVH (which is the regional specialist centre for Critical Care and the Regional Trauma Centre). That's football."

Ronan's family, including his new bride Michelle, have been at his bedside since the accident.
