Wolfe Tones & St Enda's GAC Derrymacash notes

September 08, 2014

Peil/Football
Congratulations to our minor footballers who won through to the Armagh Division 3 Championship final, following a 2.13 to 1.13 victory over Ballymacnab on Wednesday evening. The Tones boys produced a solid performance right across the field and with two early goals, left Ballymacnab chasing the game. There were great scores for both sides and credit must go to Jack Crealey in the Tones net who produced a great save to push the Tones on for a deserved win. The final against Naomh Eoin will take place in the Athletic Grounds on Monday 15 September at 6.45pm. Ádh mór ar an fhoireann bhainistíochta agus ar na buachaillí. Good luck to the management team and the players with their preparations for the county final.
Well done to Doire Emmets Under 14s who had a two point win over Naomh Eoin during the week. Hard luck to our Under 10 footballers who lost to St Peter's in the Shield final of the Clan na Gael tournament on Sunday. Well done to our Under 8 and Under 6 footballers who played games yesterday at Páirc na Ropairí. The Under 8s played Tír na nÓg in a warm-up game in preparation for our tournament next week, with two teams from each club playing four short games, three of which were won by the Tones and one finishing a draw. The children all worked very hard, tackling really well, passing nicely and taking some great scores. The Under 6s played a number of games against the Harps from Ard Mhacha and Tír na nÓg from Port an Dúnáin. These games proved to be very enjoyable and evenly matched with each club recording wins. As ever, all our Under 6 and Under 8 kids' conduct done us proud. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh siad. Praise the youth and they will fluorish.
This weekend will see our annual Under 8 and Under 10 tournaments take place at the club on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The tournaments get underway at 10am and we would encourage as many club members and supporters as possible to come down and support the future stars of our club. The Under 8 tournament is played in memory of the late Jim Harte and the Under 10 tournament is played in memory of Henry McPartland and Joe McCorry. We would also be very grateful if anyone would like to offer a hand with running the tournaments.
Hard luck to Tones man John McCorry and his Longford teammates who lost out to Cavan in the New York Junior football final. John proudly represented Derrymacash at the Gaelic Park on Sunday and we are very proud of his achievement of reaching the New York final.

The campaign received the support of county senior footballer Charlie Vernon who asked Armagh supporters to consider learning our native language.
