Wolfe Tones 2-9 Derrynoose 2-7

Well done to the senior footballers who got their season up and running with a two point victory over Doire Núis. James Doyle opened the scoring but the visitors responded with two points before Jason Greene and Ryan McQuillan palmed to the net to put the Tones 2-1 to 0-2 up. Declan Lavery's free was added another for the Tones, but the last five minutes of the half saw the visitors pull back two points and a goal with the last kick of the half to leave the half time score Tones 2-2 Derrynoose 1-4. The first ten minutes of the second half was a dull affair and it was 13 minutes before Ryan McQuillan got a score, but a free floated in by the Derrynoose corner forward deceived all to finish in the net and put the league newcomers a point up. Points from Declan Lavery, Finnian Moriarty with two, Ryan McQuillan and Emmet Haughian restored the Tones confidence. Two late converted frees from Derrynoose left the Tones support feeling nervous but a point from David Heaney confirmed the two points as Derrynoose could only manage a consolation score. Well done to Kevin Toman who had a great game at half balk. The boys have plenty to work on for their next outing away to St Peters on Sunday 27th but will be glad to get the campaign up and running with the two points.
The minor footballers lost out to St Peter's last week on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3-9. They are back in action on Monday 14 April with a home game against Maghery at 6.45pm, followed by another home tie against Mullaghbane on 21 April. The Under 16s claimed a very good win against St Peter's on Thursday night, winning by 3-14 to 1-9. They host Clann Éireann on Thursday evening 17 April at 6.45pm. Maith sibh to Doire Emmets, who also had a good win against Clann Éireann during the week. They visit Naomh Eoin on Tuesday 15 April, followed by a home game against the Grange on 22 April. The Reserves get their campaign underway on Wednesday night 16 April with an away game to Clan na Gael and they will be home to Éire Óg on Wednesday 23 April.
