Grimley: Armagh chance has passed me by
September 16, 2009
Paul Grimley has admitted that he may never get the chance to manage his native Armagh.
Grimley was the people's favourite to fill the vacancy in the Orchard County but, after failing to agree terms with the county board, he agreed to join Seamus McEnaney's management team in neighbouring Monaghan instead.
The Pearse Og clubman has been given a warm reception in the Farney County where he has coached Clontibret to a SFC final appearance against holders Latton. But while he focuses on possible Monaghan championship success, he has expressed the belief that his chances of managing Armagh have now all but evaporated.
"I was unhappy with the way things worked out for me two years ago when Peter McDonnell was appointed and things do not appear to have changed much since then," he said.
"Peter left under something of a cloud and while I hope that Armagh get the best possible candidate to fill the post, I don't think that I will now have the chance to manage Armagh in the future but at the same time never say never."
