"Division 2 is going to be very competitive" - O'Neill

Armagh's Oisin O'Neill dishes off the pass

Armagh forward Oisin O’Neill says they won’t be reading too much into having home advantage this Saturday when they welcome Cavan to the Athletic Grounds.

Kieran McGeeney’s side were dumped out of the Ulster championship by the Breffni men (after a replay) last June in Clones and O’Neill knows they’ll need a strong start in what he sees as a “very competitive” division if they are to be playing in the top tier next season.

"Obviously Division 2 is going to be very competitive because of the quality of sides that are in there," the Crossmaglen ace told the Belfast Telegraph.

"Our opening game is against Cavan this Saturday night and although they are still missing players, we imagine that they will be stronger than they were when we beat them in the McKenna Cup at Kingspan Breffni earlier this month.

"The fact that we have home advantage this time could be said to weigh in our favour but we are not reading too much into that.

"All we are interested in is getting a positive result that might hopefully kick-start our bid to try and get into Division 1."

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
