Speculation is mounting that Kieran McGeeney will remain on as Armagh football manager.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning captain's five-year term ended with a gut-wrenching All-Ireland SFC Qualifier Round 3 defeat to Mayo three weeks ago, but the Irish News is reporting that he is now being offered the chance to extend his reign.

McGeeney, who has been linked with a return to the Kildare hotseat in the wake of Cian O'Neill's resignation, guided the Orchard County to their first Ulster SFC win in five years at the expense of neighbours Down in May before losing the provincial semi-final to Cavan after a replay. 

Armagh bounced back to record a fine win over last year's All-Ireland SFC semi-finalists Monaghan in the All-Ireland Qualifiers before succumbing to Mayo by a point in Castlebar at the of June.
