Late postponement "far from ideal" - McGeeney

Kieran McGeeney says the last-minute postponement of Armagh's McKenna Cup clash with Derry last weekend could make life difficult for one of the teams.

The game at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday was called off when the frozen pitch failed a late inspection and has now been refixed for this coming Sunday. Both teams are also in action in the third round on Wednesday night, while the winners of the group will be asked to tog out again for a semi-final the following Wednesday, followed by a possible final on Sunday week - potentially four games in twelve days!

"It's far from ideal but you have to look after the players first," McGeeney comments in The Irish Daily Mirror. "It is going to be tough now because it tightens things up a bit.

"More than likely it's going to be one of us (who tops the group), though it could be Jordanstown, but whichever team goes through to the semis has three games in seven days, which is a big ask."

However, McGeeney agrees with the decision to call the game off last Sunday: "It was the right call. It's easy for us because we're at home but it's a long journey for Derry to come here."
