Justin McCarthy will be part of new Antrim hurling manager PJ O'Mullan Jnr's backroom team.

The former Waterford and Limerick manager, who has worked with various teams in Antrim over the years, will act as a consultant to O'Mullan, whose appointment was ratified on Wednesday night.

"Justin has a serious passion for Antrim hurling and it has a special place in his heart. I've got to know him over the years because he comes up here all the time," O'Mullan explained to the Irish Examiner.

"He has been there and done that and for me to have a mentor and selector of that stature, it doesn't get any better than that. We are lucky to have him."

O'Mullan confirmed that the Cork legend McCarthy will attend all of Antrim's games and some training sessions.

"We have training weekends planned and Justin will be heavily involved in all of that as well as on match day," he explained.
