A new planning application for the proposed redevelopment of Casement Park will be submitted in September, it has been revealed.

Ambitious plans to transform the ailing West Belfast venue into a 38,000 all-seater stadium were dealt a devastating blow before Christmas when the Mooreland and Owenvarragh Residents' Association mounted a successful legal challenge against the project going ahead.

However, Ulster GAA remains committed to the project, with a Stormont committee being told yesterday that a fresh round of public consultation by the GAA would begin on May 17 and last for three months.

The Irish News reports that Rory Miskelly, who is a senior official with the North's Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, said there would be a "further period of stocktaking" with a "resubmission of the application to the Planning Service in early September."

An Ulster GAA spokesman refused to be drawn on details of the revised planning application.

"The Ulster GAA project team are working through all the relevant issues regarding the provincial stadium project and will in the coming weeks make further comment on our future plans around the redevelopment of Casement Park," he said.
