Shiels: no places guaranteed

Antrim and Dunloy star Paul Shiels
Antrim hurler Paul Shiels feels that the squad is stronger than ever.

Shiels feels that manager Jerry Wallace has a wealth of talent at his disposal and that is without the returning Loughiel Shamrock contingent.

The Dunloy clubman feels that they recently crowned All-Ireland club champions will have their work cut out to retain their places on the team.

"They will have to earn their position as well, they can't expect to come back and step on to the team," Sheils stressed to Gaelic Life.

"There was a lot of competition for places and to be fair to Jerry, he gave everybody a fair crack of the whip. It took me a while to get up to the pace of the hurling and I'm only getting my chance now.

"We have a good squad which is what we need and like everybody else, it's up to me to keep my place."
