Ulster MFC: Farney too strong for Saffrons

May 05, 2018

Antrim and Monaghan met in the opening round of the Ulster minor football championship qualifiers at Corrigan Park.

Monaghan's bid for Ulster MFC honours is back on track.

Seamus McEnaney's side bounced back from the disappointment of their extra-time defeat to Derry two weeks ago when recording an emphatic 3-12 to 0-7 victory over Antrim at Corrigan Park today.

First-half goals from Sean Jones and Loughlinn Power boosted the Farney County into a 2-4 to 0-1 interval lead.

Aaron McLoughlin's sending-off just before the break was the only negative from their point of view at the halfway stage but the Saffrons were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage after the resumption.

The second-half followed a similar pattern with full-forward Power raising Monaghan's third green flag in the opening minute.

'Banty' and his players now turn their attention to a round 2 qualifier against Donegal which is scheduled to be played next weekend.
