Monaghan ladies football star Niamh Kindlon has retired from inter-county football.
Many tributes have been paid on social media to the Magheracloone player, who was only 16 when she scored a goal in the Farney County's All-Ireland final victory over Waterford in 1997. She won All Star awards in 1998, 2002 and 2008 and was widely recognised as one of the greats of ladies football.
Kindlon, who will celebrate her 34th birthday on July 22, has been forced to bow out due to injury. Her retirement comes in the same week as that of Cork's nine-time All-Ireland winning forward, Nollaig Cleary.
