Walsh backs Ballyduff for Waterford success

November 03, 2007
Former All-Star Mossie Walsh is confident that his beloved Ballyduff Upper can shock Ballygunner in Sunday's Waterford senior hurling final at Walsh Park. Walsh featured at midfield alongside his brothers Richie and Michael when Ballyduff last tasted county championship success in 1987 and while admitting that they will be rank outsiders on Sunday, he is giving them every chance. "Favourites don't always oblige," he warned. "They (Ballygunner) may be regarded as a team in transition, but there is such an intensity of hurling within the club that nothing can hold them back. The huge number of young players also coming through their ranks is the guarantee that they are going to be remaining a very successful hurling club. "But there is no good reason for Ballyduff to fear them. I'm certain their attitude will be first class. It cannot be any other way with experienced men like Maurice Geary (manager), Paudie Prendergast and Mossie Casey involved. They will do everything to ensure the players cope successfully with the situation."
