The history of the St. Loman's GAA club in Mullingar, 'From Stars to Saints', was recently launched.
Founded behind the walls of a psychiatric hospital, St. Loman's has gone on to become one of the biggest and most successful clubs in Westmeath, and is a pivotal part of the sporting fabric of Mullingar. Under former Westmeath, Longford and Carlow manager Luke Dempsey, the 'Blues' completed a clean sweep of SFC, Division 1 and Feis Cup wins this year and boasts some of the finest playing facilities in the country at its Lakepoint Park grounds.
There are many fascinating stories in the book as the club drew its playing resources from the hospital staff which over the years included some of the best known names in Gaelic football in counties Westmeath, Longford and Roscommon.
Compiled by Joe Maleady, Lima Davitt, Liam Martin and Dave Doolin, the book covers the period from 1910 to 2016. It is available for €20 and can be purchased by emailing
