Richard Ferris has stepped down as Derry minor football manager in the wake of yesterday's Ulster championship quarter-final defeat to Donegal.
The Oak Leafers suffered a 0-8 to 1-10 loss at Celtic Park and Ferris announced afterwards that he was resigning. It was the Drumsurn man's second time to resign the role in four years. In 2010, he was forced to relinquish the position after taking up a role as a full-time GAA coaching officer, only to return as manager last year.
Ferris, who was a member of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland SFC winning panel, felt his side paid the price for a sluggish first half display which saw them trail by 0-3 to 1-6 at the break.
"I have already been asked if we showed Donegal too much respect in the first half and the answer is 'no'. We just came up short in the first half but, look, over half of that side are still minors next year," he told the Irish News.
