Tributes have been pouring in for former Dublin footballer Gerry Collins who has passed away.

Collins - who was the face of a national anti-smoking campaign - lost his battle with lung cancer this morning.

The Greystones, Co Wicklow resident lined out for Dublin in the 1980 Leinster football final and was also heavily involved in coaching with Kilmacud Crokes.

The HSE's anti-smoking campaign included adverts depicting Gerry coaching at the club and a statement on Kilmacud's facebook page today reads: "It is with great sadness that we report on the death of Gerry Collins this morning.

"Gerry was a great club man who was involved with various football teams for years. Many people will know Gerry from the Quit campaign and admired his great bravery.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
