Tony McEntee has joined the Down senior football management team just weeks after stepping down as Sligo manager.
The 2002 Armagh All-Ireland SFC winner, who was linked with the Mayo manager’s job before it was filled by Andy Moran earlier this month, replaces newly-appointed Derry manager Ciaran Meenagh in Conor Laverty’s backroom team. Meenagh took charge of the Oak Leafers for a second time after Paddy Tally departed and has since taken up a coaching role in Andy Moran’s backroom team in Mayo.
Meanwhile, Danny Magill’s season is over after he sustained a cruciate ligament injury in Burren’s Down SFC Round 1 win over Castlewellan last weekend. The injury is also expected to rule him out of the start of the Mourne County’s 2026 campaign.
