New role for Bannon

Referee John Bannon
Former inter-county referee John Bannon is back in the news following his election as Longford's new Leinster Council delegate.

The Legan Sarsfields clubman defeated Fr. Manning Gaels' Michael Lennon by 53 votes to 23 at Tuesday night's Special Longford GAA Convention to land the job which Mostrim's John Greene had vacated following his recent election as Leinster Council PRO.

A former Longford minor board chairman, Bannon refereed at inter-county level from 1991 to 2009, with his biggest assignment being the 1998 All-Ireland football final between Galway and Kildare. He still officiates at club level and has recently worked as a rule interpreter for the Kildare football team.
